Then God said to Solomon: “Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked riches or wealth or honour or the life of your enemies, nor have you asked long life—but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself, that you may judge My people over whom I have made you king— wisdom and knowledge are granted to you; and I will give you riches and wealth and honour, such as none of the kings have had who were before you, nor shall any after you have the like.” (2 Chr 1:11-12). The Lord offered to give Solomon anything he asked. The young king had a spiritual blank cheque on which he could write anything he wanted, and God would give it to him. Ever wondered what you would have asked for? Solomon made the right request to the Lord; he asked for wisdom and knowledge. The other word for knowledge is understanding; not money, power, vengeance, just wisdom and understanding. The Lord added riches, wealth and honour as bonuses for Solomon.
The lesson we learn from God’s answer to Solomon’s prayer is that wisdom and understanding add riches, wealth and honour to our lives. If there is a blessing, we must not miss this. Power and anything we desire is the by-products of the benefit of wisdom and understanding. Wisdom is our navigating instrument through the changing seasons of life. As we move through life, we will be guided by our wisdom and make decisions based on it. When we come to a junction of life and don’t know what to do, we will draw on divine wisdom for the way forward. May the Lord bless us with wisdom and understanding.
