Names of God
1. El Shaddai (Lord God Almighty).
El Shaddai is used 7 times in the Bible. El is translated as God. It is combined with other words to show the various aspects of God. Scriptures Ref: Gen 17:1; Gen 28:3; Gen 35:11; Gen 43:14; Gen 48:3, etc.
2. El Elyon (The Most High God).
It occurs 28 times in the Bible and 19 of them is used in the Psalms. It means “Most High”. Scriptures Ref: Gen 14:18-19; Gen 14:20; Gen 14:22; Psa 57:2; Psa 78:35 etc.
3. Adonai (Lord, Master).
It is used 434 times. It is a plural word. The singular word is adon. When adon is used, it is in reference to a human lord. Adonia is used is another name for God to refer to Him as Master or Lord. 4. Yahweh (Lord, Jehovah).
The name Yahweh occurs 6,519 times in the Bible and cannot lists all of them here. It was first used in Gen 2:14. It means Lord or Master. The name was too profound to be used so it was spelt YHWH. It is called Tetragrammaton meaning “Four Letter Word”.
5. Jehovah Nissi (The Lord My Banner).
Jehovah is translated as the Existing One. Nissi means a banner, a name Moses used when they defeated the Amalekites. Today, God is our banner of hope and encouragement. Scripture Ref: Exodus 17:15.
6. Jehovah-Raah (The Lord My Shepherd).
Sometimes spelt Jehovah Rohi or Ro’eh. Raah means a shepherd in Hebrew. It can also mean friend. God is our Shepherd and our Companion. Scripture Ref: Gen 48:15; Gen 49:24; Psa 23:1; Psa 80:1
7. Jehovah Rapha (The Lord That Heals).
Also spelt Rophe, Raphah, it means to “restore” or “heal” or bring health. God is our Healer. Scripture Ref: Ex 15:26 Jer 30:17; Jer 3:22; Isa 30:26; Isa 61:1; Psa 103:3).
8. Jehovah Shammah (The Lord Is There).
Shammah means There. It is from the Hebrew word sham. God is always There with us. Scripture Ref: Ezekiel 48:35.
9. Jehovah Tsidkenu (The Lord Our Righteousness).
Tsidkenu means to be “straight” or “righteous”. God is our Righteousness. Scripture Ref: Jer 23:6; Jer 33:16.
10. Jehovah Mekoddishkem (The Lord Who Sanctifies You).
It is derived from the Hebrew word qâdash means “sanctify”, “holy” or “dedicate”. God is our Sanctifier. Scripture Ref: Ex 31:13; Lev 20:8.
11. El Olam (The Everlasting God).
Olam comes from the root word Im which means etertnity. God is the One Who exist forever, eternal and the Everlasting. Scripture Ref: Gen 21:33; Jer 10:10; Isa 26:4.
12. Elohim (God).

13. Qanna (Jealous).
It is used 6 times in the Bible. It means “jealous”, “zealous” or “envy”. God is jealous in the sense that He wants all praises for Himself and none other. Scripture Ref: Ex 20:5; Ex 34:14; Deu 4:24; Deu 5:9; Deu 6:15.
14. Jehovah Jireh (The Lord Will Provide).
It occurs once in the Bible It was a symbolic given to Mount Moriah to show that God is the true Provider by Abraham. Scripture Ref: Gen 22:14.
15. Jehovah Shalom (The Lord Is Peace).
It occurs once in the Bible. It was a name given by Gideon when he built an altar in Ophrah. It means “absence of strife” or “peace”. Scripture Ref: Judges 6:24.
