Inspiration 63

The more we know about God, the more grace and peace we receive from Him. The less knowledge we have of Him and Christ, the less of His grace and peace we experience. Knowing God is not just having information about Him. It is not about reading or memorising a few Bible verses; it goes further than that. It is a recognition and acceptance of God’s truth as our truth and an accurate understanding of His truth. It requires studying the Bible and having an intimate relationship with Him through prayer.

“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.” (2 Pet 1:2). God’s grace demonstrates His goodwill and favour towards us. His peace is a demonstration of His safety and prosperity towards our well-being. His grace covers every need of our lives whilst His peace keeps us through all situations. Usually, when we speak of the grace and peace of God, we think of them as fixed, meaning grace is grace and peace is peace. We see grace and peace as the same or as remaining constants. Today’s passage reveals something fascinating about God’s grace and peace: they can increase! In other words, God’s grace to us can grow, and so can His peace. To multiply means to become many or to rise. So God’s grace on each of us is not the same. Some have a standard level of grace, whereas others have a higher level.

The same applies to God’s peace. The big question is, how do grace and peace multiply in our lives? The answer is right there in the passage. Grace and peace are multiplied through the knowledge of God and of Jesus, our Lord.

Scriptures.

I will both lie down in peace and sleep, for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. (Ps 4:8).

That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. (Col 1:10).

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen. (2 Pet 3:18).
