“For in Him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 1:28). God created people in His image and according to His likeness. We were intended to become more like Him by living according to His word. It implies that we would become less like Him if we did not obey His word. Truly, when Adam disobeyed His word, he became sinful and fell short of His glory given him (Rom 3:23). The following consequences came his way: cursed earth, painful labour to produce food to eat, reduced fruitfulness of crops and death (Gen 3:17-19). Our moral likeness unto God was compromised by sin, and we have since become less like God and are becoming less and less like Him.Yes, disobedience to God’s word makes people go backwards and not forward (Jer 7:24). They go far from Him to pursue worthlessness and become worthless. They became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts become darkened, so they become fools even though they may look wise in their own eyes (Rom 1: 21, 22). With a debased mind, they embark on all kinds of ungodly acts that no longer are like God. Like Jesus told the Jewish leaders, people become like the devil whose desires they pursue, thus submitting to his fatherhood (Jn 8:44). God had to send Jesus to recreate people in Him (Eph 2:10), for them to be conformed to Him image once again through Him. (Rom 8: 29)
Accordingly, a person may become like God in Christ and may become more and more like Him by their continued abiding in Christ. As creatures with the capacity to become more like God, sin has damaged this capacity, but God has restored it in Christ. You can manifest your God-like character when you are in Christ.
