Inspiration 119

Take your problem to Jesus first, for He knows its root and can destroy it by uprooting it. It is the help that comes from the Lord which gives a perfect solution to a problem. The Lord knew the core problem for man was Satan, who introduced sin into the world, so He had to overcome evil by His sacrificial death. Through Him, others can have victory over whatever situation they may go through.

“And in the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa became diseased in his feet, and his malady was severe; yet in his disease, he did not seek the Lord, but the physicians.” (2 Chr 16:12-13). God, the Creator of the universe, is the only omnipotent One to deal with every problem in the world. When King Asa of Judah was attacked by an Ethiopian army of a million men, he cried to the Lord for help, and the Lord defeated the Ethiopians before the king and his army. “Asa prayed to the Lord his God, ‘O Lord, you can help a weak army as easily as a powerful one. Help us now, O Lord our God, because we are relying on You, and in Your name, we have come out to fight against this huge army. Lord, You are our God; no one can hope to defeat You.’ The Lord defeated the Ethiopian army when Asa and the Judean army attacked them. They fled, and Asa and his troops pursued them as far as Gerar. So many Ethiopians were killed that the army could not rally and fight. They were overpowered by the Lord and his army, and the army took large amounts of loot” (2 Chr 14:11-13; GNT).

However, when King Baasha of Israel attacked Asa, he sought help from King Benhadad of Syria, taking silver and gold from the treasuries of the house of the Lord and sending them to him. (2 Chr 16:1-3). This time around, King Asa felt he didn’t need God anymore. He chose to use the tithes of God to have a treaty with King Benhadad. God sent a prophet called Hanani to point out King Asa’s foolishness. Instead of being remorseful of his acts, Asa dared to arrest the man of God and put him in chains in prison (vv. 10). Therefore, when he was severely diseased, he could not go before the Lord but went to physicians for healing and died. There was nothing wrong with King Asa seeking help from physicians, but there is a limit to what man can do for another. Human solutions to problems are inadequate and imperfect, so God’s assistance should be sought first. King Asa was otherwise a good king because he abolished pagan worship and the burning of incense from all the cities of Judah.

Scriptures.

But from there, you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul (Deut 4:29).

Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face evermore! (Psalm 104:5, 1 Chr 16:11).

So that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us (Acts 17:27).
