Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before unknown men. (Pro 22:29). Old King James Version uses the word “diligent”, which means a person who quickly dispatches, is vigorous and speedy in executing his or her assigned responsibilities. It is the quality of a person’s work, not their bribes or flattery, that will ultimately determine how their career progresses. Instead of focusing all our efforts on finding “ways and means” to advance, we must commit to merit in all that we do.
· “Excellence relates to what we do.
Excellence is about what you do, your work, or your activity. Whatever work you are engaged in, God wants you to work in such a way that can be excellent. Whether you are a preacher, singer, usher, engineer, lawyer, teacher, carpenter, or fashion designer, something about your work must make people stop and take note. Excellence brings us out of obscurity — “He will stand before kings.” Excellence will bring you out obscurity and unknown people into recognition. The word obscurity simply means “secret”, “darkness” or “hidden”. When we say that something is obscure, it means it is hidden, dark, and it is secret. When you are excellent, you will be brought out of obscurity. We must see progress in life from our work and the merit of our work. If we do our work well, God will shine His light on it. You may not even like publicity, you may be a quiet person who doesn’t even want anybody to know you, but when you are excellent, you cannot hide. You will stand before great people, and you will be noticed. May God cause you to be excellent wherever you are so that you stand before great people and have greatness attracted to where you are.
