So, he said, “Tomorrow.” And he said, “Let it be according to your word, that you may know that there is no one like the Lord our God. And the frogs shall depart from you, from your houses, from your servants, and from your people. They shall remain in the river only.” (Ex 8:10-11). Pharaoh accepted Moses’ invitation to name the time for the frogs to be taken from the land. He asked Moses to pray the next day and ask God to take the frogs from the ground. Moses accepted the date fixed by Pharaoh. He allowed the king of Egypt to set the timetable for relief from the plaque for this reason: so that he would know that there is no one like the Lord.
The Lord, our God, has no equal. No one is like the Lord our God. He is both just and merciful and executes chastisement and judgment upon the sinner, but He also will have mercy upon the sinner who cries out for deliverance and salvation. The Lord is also the Lord of all powers. God executed judgment upon Egypt to show that He and He alone was omnipotent and could judge all creatures. The Lord also showed that He controls reproduction because He is the Creator of all things. Remember, the Egyptians believed that frogs had the spirit of reproduction, so multiplying and killing or driving frogs to and fro the rivers show that God has power over reproduction.
Moses’ word would demonstrate that the Lord is the God of mercy, deliverance, and salvation. The Lord can remove as well as launch chastisement and judgment. Pharaoh needed to learn that the Lord is the God of mercy and judgment. Through Moses, God proclaimed to Pharaoh and all of Egypt that He had the power to administer judgment and mercy. In Jesus, God pardons the vilest offender through Christ’s death and resurrection. If we accept the Lord’s offer, “frogs” will be driven away from us, but they will be all over us eternally if we reject it. Our Lord extends eternal mercy to all who receive it, but we bring ourselves under God’s infinite judgment when we refuse His offer of mercy.
