And Moses said to Aaron, “What did these people do to you that you have brought so great a sin upon them?” (Ex 32:21). When the Israelites had not seen Moses for a while, they pressured Aaron into building them a god to worship, and he succumbed to the pressure of the people and made for them a golden calf. Pressure is an altar you build in your life. Everything you put above God becomes a god to you and has an altar. In modern times, we have created many “calves” that we worship. We give all our attention to people, jobs, culture, money, and many other things. We succumbed to the pressure just like Aaron.
Pressure causes you to forget about God and His goodness, act in ways you never expected, get into trouble and, even worse, get depressed. Ultimately, pressure causes you to sin, and it comes in different forms.
- Satanic pressure. The pressure of temptations and evil manipulations.
- The pressure of voices. There could also be voices in your head that speak negatively to you.
- The pressure of people. This is when people cause you to do something you do not want to or would ordinary not do.
Israelites forgot the God who brought them out of Egypt and gave His glory to an idol. When you are under pressure, which path do you choose? The direction of God or the one that looks satisfying? Today, may everything that has been placed above the Lord in your life be broken in Jesus’ name.
