Only those who do not know the Lord are prone to boasting about themselves, achievements, or possessions. Those who know Him acknowledge it by His grace that they are what they are. “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.” (1 Cor 15: 10). “For who makes you differ from another? What do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?” (1 Cor 4:7). Boast in the Lord only for He gives your life, breath and everything (Acts 17: 25).
“By faith, Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.” (Heb 11: 24). Moses was rescued from the river Nile by Pharaoh’s daughter. Therefore, he became her son (Ex 2: 10). He was privileged as his people, Israel, were in slavery in Egypt. Furthermore, male children of Israel were being drowned in the Nile River, but he survived. He grew up knowing he belonged to the people of Israel, who were then in slavery. Instead of enjoying his elevation as prince of Egypt, Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He instead chose to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of Egypt (Heb 11:25). He would boast in the Lord instead of in the treasures of Egypt. Even though God mightily used Moses to rescue Israel from Egypt and take them safely on a journey of 40 years through a wilderness, he never boasted about himself or things he had done. For he knew it was God who worked through him. There has never been a prophet like him in Israel, for he knew God face to face and was used to do wonders and signs. Yet, he was the humblest man on the face of the earth (Num 12:3).
