Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Behold, I will rain bread from Heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not.” (Ex 16:4; emp added). God wanted them to go for a daily meal. In the New Testament, we got to know that Jesus was the Manna that came from Heaven (John 6:31, 58). In teaching His disciples how to pray, the Lord said they should ask the Father for their daily meal.
One of the things I do daily is to invite the Lord to speak to my heart concerning what I read for that day because I do not understand most of them. A famous passage in the Book of Acts caught my attention years ago. The Holy Spirit sent Philip, the evangelist, to speak to someone reading the scroll but couldn’t understand it. “Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is desert. So he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship, was returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet. Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.” So Philip ran to him, heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?” (Acts 8:26-30). This Ethiopian man could read but didn’t understand the Scripture.
We can read and understand some verses, but there are many that we cannot understand. We are familiar with other Scriptures and know the story, but do you know the Lord always has more to say on Scriptures?
I believe that the Bible has the final say in life, but I also know that God speaks to us on personal issues and the Scriptures. I hope they will bless you as you read them.
