Resurrection of Christ.
I was born in a tiny town called Winneba, a fishing port in the southern part of Ghana. Winneba is about 90 miles east of Cape Coast. I had my primary school education at Winneba Int’l School and attended Advanced Junior Secondary School (now Unipra Junior High School). After that, I went to St Augustine’s College for my senior high.
My parents divorced during my childhood days, and I remember vividly the day my Dad told me they weren’t together anymore. It was heartbreaking but I was consoled by the fact that they were both alive and I am still thankful they are still alive. My Dad lived in Dansoman (Accra) whilst my mum lived in Winneba (Central Region). Even though they weren’t together, their love, support and care for us cushioned us, so we were not hit by the adverse effect of the broken home. In Winneba, I attended Ebenezer Methodist Church just at the corner of our house. My grandmother (Mum’s mum) was very active in the church and one of the leaders of the Women’s Fellowship. The Women’s Fellowship sometimes had rehearsals and their meetings in our house. My mum was also involved in the church and patroness of the Singing Band Ministry.
My father’s side were equally Christians, and they attended the Church of Christ. So both sides of the family were Christians. When we went for holidays at my Dad’s, we would go to church with him. He attends Calvary Baptist Church in Teshie, headed by Rev Oliver Deegbe. I identified more with the Baptist Church than the Methodist. The Methodist church was more into music, while the Baptists focused on the Word. They took their bible studies seriously by organising many programs, and their teaching ministry was simple, sound and profound. That was foundational to my Christian growth because it was there that I was challenged to spend more time studying the Bible. When I joined the Teen Bible Class, I was so far behind I needed to catch up. That motivated me to spend more time reading the Word.
I moved to the UK not long after my secondary high school education. I lived in Bolton for about six years and had my degree there. I later moved to Manchester, then eventually to London.
Sports:
I enjoy playing table tennis and jogging. I was part of the team that ran the 4×400 metre race (and won) in my Junior High School competition. I took the baton at the third position during the third transfer and brought it to the first. My training mate Paul, completed it and we won. It was the last event so the attention was on us and winning it was magical. Do you know how the girls carried me around? I thank God I was a Christian because that was enough to sin (haha). Senior High was too competitive, so I was not selected for inter colleges competition. If I had dedicated more training to it, I could have been chosen because I was passionate about it. Besides running, I love to play table tennis or ping pong, but I have not played it for years. Thinking of it makes me miss my childhood days because we gathered at our house right after school and spent hours playing it almost every day. Usain Bolt will be my top athlete among the lot that I like. For tennis, I will stick with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Boris Becker, Marin Cilic, the Willaim sisters. Footballers I like not in any particular order: Messi, Zidane, Roberto Carlos, Diego Maradona Zico, Roberto Baggio, both Ronaldos, Ruud Gullit, Ronaldinho, Michel Platini, Marco van Basten, Gerd Muller, Eusebio, Johan Cruyff, Paolo Maldini, Romario, George Best, Alfredo di Stefano Carlos Alberto…way too many.

My Christian Journey:
I gave my life to Jesus when I was around 13 years. There was nothing unusual in my Christian walk in my teens except that I occasionally heard a Voice in my head. When I said and did the wrong things, the Voice would tell me not to do that. For example, if I got upset and used a cuss word, the Voice would whisper, “That is not nice.” I would reply, “But he started it. He said that, and that was why I also said that.” Then, the Voice will keep quiet. I didn’t discuss it with anyone because I believed that Voice spoke to everyone. I remember an incident when the Voice spoke to me vividly about something I wanted to do, and I shouted, “Just go away, I will do it anyway.” I don’t remember what I had wanted to do. I may have wanted to steal a slice of meat from my mother’s pot of stew, and the Voice didn’t want me to do that, so I yelled at “it” to go away as I was burnt on doing it. I had had enough of the Voice telling me what to do and what not to. I went on and did it, but since then, “it” stopped talking to me. Years down the line, I learned that it was the Holy Spirit. I repented, but it took years before He became alive in me again. I do not want to disobey Him anymore, even though I occasionally do it.
My Calling:
How do you know your calling and purpose in life? It will take some studies but the will of God is not hidden; it is not far from you. God will reveal it to you if you seek Him with all your heart. He will either show it to you in a dream, an impression or through another person. But it is always better to have a first hand experience with Him. I knew my calling at around 14 years but no one mentored me and besides none of my family was a pastor so it was a bit challengeing to follow my call. Then again, Satan came after me, hindered me and literally “caged” me so I wouldn’t be able to share the gospel. He did his best, but when we are downtrodden, depressed and discouraged, God shows up and renew His covenant promises with us.
I served as a Sunday School teacher for about eight years but the Lord wants me to catch more fish. He wants me to serve beyond the scope of my local church. “For He says, in the time of favor (of an assured welcome) I have listened to and heeded your call, and I have helped you on the day of deliverance (the day of salvation). Behold, now is truly the time for a gracious welcome and acceptance [of you from God]; behold, now is the day of salvation!”
May the Lord bless and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you.
